Portrait of Charles Henry LAMBERT

His story

Lieutenant Charles Henry Lambert MRCVS was born on 20 July 1882, the eldest son of John Henry Lambert of Redmount, Ballinasloe, Galway. He graduated from the Royal College in Dublin in 1908 and worked for Mr. H. S. Persse, the well-known trainer at Chattis Hill, Stockbridge, Hampshire, for several years.

Lambert was commissioned as a temporary lieutenant on 14 June 1915. Earlier memorial research places his attachment to the 58th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, at Witley Camp on 29 June. A published transcription of the brigade diary records sailing from Devonport aboard SS Knight Templar on 1 July and reaching Alexandria on 12 July. It records that he became ill on 26 July, entered No. 17 General Hospital the next day and died there on 17 August 1915 from a perforated gastric ulcer.

Lieutenant Lambert’s obituary appeared in The Veterinary Record on 28 August 1915.
